Plot Overview

The story of “Tarot” deals with a group of people who find themselves bound by the Tarot cards and the forces that are behind them. The cards are mainly used in the film to reveal the destinies and fates of the central characters.

The plot depicts these subjects getting involved into the web of supernatural horror. The audience is taken on a ride where every other card played replaces the words of the spells with the fates of the people, and thereafter everything becomes blurry how much more erasing has to be loaded into the puzzle pieces.

Character Analysis

Harriet Slater unfold a story based on a character who becomes the focal point of the tarot cards’ mystery breaking.

For Adain Bradley and Avantika Vandanapu, they belong to the group that spectators cannot help but empathize with; the victims of the tarot induced terror.

Vandanapu’s character gives a significant contribution to the story emotionally.

Wolfgang Novogratz, Humberly Gonzalez, Larsie Thompson, and Jacob Batalon round out the main cast of the movie. Everyone contributes a different skill set to the casting, as the characters are complex and have to face their own inner monsters.

Direction of Tarot

Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg take their first seat in the director’s chair with “Tarot”, and perhaps the audience will love their story work as a team especially with spicing up the horror genre.

The pair’s skill in plot construction is revealed in their ability to shift from one event to another which is important in creating tension.

Their choice to screen-adapt a novel, “Horrorscope”, written in 1992 by Nicholas Adams, signifies their quest for a new perspective that fuses metropolitan and horror genres into one cohesive story.

In Cohen and Halberg’s direction, they choose to work on atmosphere and mood instead of leaning on the usual horror clichés. What produces the feeling of dread that seems to be in every frame of the film, which explains dread informs, is the visual and sound design of the film.

The story also involves the use of tarot cards which form the basis of the narrative, thus the film excites with surprises every now and then as the viewers are left to wonder what next lies on the card.

Screenplay

Nicholas Adams also engaged in co-writing the screenplay which was based on his 1992 novel “Horrorscope”, the focal point of the films source material. When the novel came out, it was well received in the horror community for being unique and combining both psychological and supernatural genres which grabbed readers.

This last film adaptation of horrorscope into motion picture form gives a chance for a younger generation of horror fans to enjoy all the use of tension and suspense which is characteristic of Adams’ writing.

The film is more likely to stay true to the black and gloomy tone of the novel, and even while adding obviously cinematic scenes that were not in the book. Adams is a working novelist, which is best for Officers and his stance in compliance the structure of filmary.

However, the orthodox structure is not a limitation as we provide scope for visual and character development during adaptation.

Cinematography and Visual Effects

In most cases, the film’s storyline goes hand in hand with the camera work or sinematography, especially on “Tarot” where pictures take center stage. The heavy use of dark colors and close up shots created an idea of constriction and despair.

From scene to scene, no effort is spared to create an ambiance of suspense with the disks being well captured and focused on the assumption to their relevance in the story.

Real terror is achieved through a combination of direction and use of visual effects in a manner that remains believable within the fantasy world of the film.

The visual effects supervisors in these movies ensure that elements of fear, regardless of the form in which they appear – be it ghosts or hallucinogenic tarot cards – are visually thrilling but frightening at the same time.

Music and Sound Design

In “Tarot,” the music and the sounds are considered building blocks just as they are in most horror films. The score of the film which is expected to be done by an unidentified composer is said to be full of ghostly sounds and violent quick cuts to increase drama.

Sound design increases the horror element incorporating relative silence or loud noise as the situation dictates.

The music score will most likely include both slight, underlining compositions and explosive, fast-paced moods to templates for important scenes of thrill and fear in the story.

Sounding also comes into play with the concept of tension which is pronouncedly essential in a film such as ‘Tarot’ where it is psychological horror that sustains the terror.
